HIDDEN VALLEY NATURE PRESERVE - QU'APPELLE VALLEY
Tucked in the Qu'Appelle Valley is a nature preserve called Hidden Valley. Even though, its name suggests it is impossible to find it is just a short 8km drive from Craven, a small town just north of Regina.
Special thanks to Cutting Into Adventure for providing information and photographs of this location.
This location is a small nature preserve with about 5km of hiking trails crossing their way through the hills. Expect to get great views of the Qu'Appelle River and Valley and some moderately steep sections.
This is a great place to come for the afternoon to get out of the city and do a bit of exploring and have a picnic. Expect to see lots of crocus in the spring!
Since this in a nature preserve make sure you are careful about where you step and to be mindful of your presence. Pets are prohibited.
Climb the self-proclaimed "Stairway to Heaven" a steep man-made staircase carved into the side of the valley wall. Once on top enjoy the surrounding view of the valley!
Head north on Highway 20 to Craven.
Turn right (east) on Russell Hill Road just south of Craven, the road will direct you south.
You will come to an intersection where the road will bank left, follow this turn for roughly a kilometer.
Make your first left to head north again.
Follow this gravel road for 5km and you will see a small dirt parking lot on the right. There will be a small green sign marking it as the Hidden Valley Nature Preserve.
